Autovista Group Survey: What will be the leading vehicle class in Europe this year?

04 May 2018

Alarm bells rang earlier this month when Ford announced it was planning to pull its Mondeo out of the US market. The move comes as sales of the model in the country have dropped.

One reason for this is gravitation by customers towards SUV models, which offer more space and practicality over traditional saloon and large hatchback vehicles. This is a trend that is continuing in Europe as well, with each manufacturer looking to build a range of SUV models to attract consumers.

There is more choice for drivers than ever, with the small city car market growing alongside the SUV sector. Will this impact small hatchback sales, or will the practicality of these help them to win out? Can the midsize hatchback sector continue to drive sales?

Additionally, will carmakers decide to drop underselling models as they look to develop electric vehicles and autonomous technologies, giving themselves a financial boost which they can use to fund these projects?

While Ford of Europe has stated that the Mondeo remains a core part of its line-up, with the demand for SUVs growing, Autovista Group wants to ask readers of its Daily News Brief what they think will be the dominant model in Europe at the end of this year.
